Figuring it out

I really wish mentorship was a more readily available feature to the publishing world for writers. Having the opportunity the last few weeks to work with an industry expert to help me refine my query has been nothing short of revelatory for me.

Devising a query from scratch and trying to figure it all out on your own is difficult, I should know as I’ve struggled at doing it for quite some time. My only regret was that it took me so long before trying to get a professional’s help.

While I have not yet reaped the fruits of the revisions as I’m only now sending out my latest batch of queries with the wholly revised and undoubtedly superior query. The professional working with me speculated that I would see substantial increase in interest with this batch. I hope she is right. Oddly, I think I wish for her to be right more for her than for me. I suppose that the lack of interest I’ve garnered on my own has made me numb to the process, but now I hope for success just so I can let her know her efforts paid off. We’ll give it a few weeks and see how it goes.
